I. Program Introduction

Chinese Language Program is open to international students who love Chinese Language and Chinese culture. Students learn Chinese in School of International Education as full-time general visiting students.

Instruction is divided into elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels. Students are arranged according to the results of Chinese placement test at the beginning of the semester. Class size is approximately fifteen students per class. Normally class hours are from Monday to Friday, 4 academic hours per day, 20 academic hours per week.

Upon completion of the program, students will receive a certificate and an official transcript. The program is normally one semester long, but students could apply for extension of their study period to at most four semesters in accumulation.

 

II. Course Setting

1. Chinese language Courses: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Comprehensive Chinese

2. Chinese Cultural Courses (Optional): Tai Chi, Martial Arts, Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, Papercut, Chinese Cuisine, Chinese Song, Seal Cutting

3. Other courses (Optional): HSK Level 4-6 tutoring, Business Chinese

4. Extra-curricular Activities: Tianjin city tour. Extra fees need to be paid for other travelling.

 

III. Duration:

One semester or more, 20 hours/week

 

IV. Qualification of Applicants

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport. Applicant should be in good health and of good character, be well-behaved and be willing to abide by China's laws and regulations, as well as the university rules.

2. Applicants must have a high school diploma and be over the age of 18. Applicants who are still under the age of 18 as of September 1st, 2024 must submit the original guardian certificate issued by the Tianjin District Notary Office, and the Guardian must be a permanent resident of Tianjin.  

 

V. Application Period

Spring Semester: October 15th, 2023 - December 31st, 2023 (Registration in February 2024)

Autumn Semester: March 15th, 2024 - June 30th, 2024 (Registration in September 2024)

Note: Due to the limited quota of TJU, early application is strongly recommended.

 

VI. How to apply

Applicants should complete the Online Application on the International Student Service System (ISSS)tju.at0086.cn/studentaccording to the application schedule. Applicants should fill in the application information online and upload the application documents required to the Online Application System.

 

Application Documents

Please upload all listed documents below to the application system:

1. Scan of original Highest Diploma. (Scan of Pre-graduation Certificate is required if the applicants have not gained degree certificate before the application deadline. Please resubmit the original highest diploma or original notarized diploma before registration).

2. Scan of notarized copy of the academic transcripts. Applicants who will not graduate before the application deadline must provide their current academic transcript. In this case, the completed academic transcripts must be submitted before registration.

3. Study Experience Resume (The start and end time of each education experience must be uninterrupted, and education level should start from senior high school). Click here to download template.

4. Photocopy of passport within the validity period.

5. Applicants for one academic year must submit the photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed and should be conducted after October, 2023. Click here to download template. 

6. Applicant who are currently studying are required to submit a proof of study, and applicants who are working are required to submit a proof of work.

7. Applicants for one academic year must submit scan of Certificate of Non-Criminal Records.

 

Application Remarks

1. All uploaded documents must be in Chinese/English; otherwise notarial translations in Chinese/English are required. Once translated, the original documents and certified translations should be submitted together to the application system.

2. TJU has the right to request the applicants to provide the original or notarized hard copies of application documents for further qualification checks if the uploaded documents are not sufficient. Applicants who provide fake materials will be disqualified from admission.

 

VII. Evaluation and Admission

Before the final admission result is released, applicants may check their admission status on ISSS. TJU will issue Admission Notice and visa documents to students admitted.

 

VIII. Scholarship

IX. Visa Application and Registration

Admitted students should bring their personal and ordinary passport, Certificate of Admission, Visa Application Form (JW202/ JW201), and original Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners (as well as other original documents of physical examination) to the Embassy or Consulate of the People's Republic of China, and apply for a student visa (X1 visa). Students are required to arrive at TJU (along with the required documents) and complete the registration during the dates indicated in the admission notice.  

Normally, registration is held in late August or early September for autumn semester and in late February or early March for spring semester. All students should present the required original bachelor certificates, and submit the diploma copies certified by their university or certificate authorities upon registration at Tianjin University for admission qualification review. Students who fail the admission qualification review will be disqualified from admission.

(2) Students who choose to live off campus should register at the local police station within 24 hours of arrival at TJU.
