Tianjin University International Visiting Research Student Program

I. Program Introduction

Applicants must have attained at least a Bachelor degree. International Visiting Research Students are normally supervised by a professor of the accepting school or department to conduct research in a specific domain. They do not study the courses unless permitted by the supervisor or the accepting school.

II. Eligibility

1. Applicants must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health;

2. Education and age requirements:

Applicants must have graduated with a Bachelor degree, and be over the age of 18 and under the age of 50.

III. Application Period and Registration Date
Autumn Semester:

Application: March-June; Registration: Early September
Spring Semester (next year):

Application: September- December; Registration: February (next year)

IV. Application Materials

1. Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study at Tianjin University, China (filled in by typing in Chinese or English, pasted with a recent photo); (Click here to download the form)

2. Notarized certificate of the highest diploma. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English, the original and a copy must be submitted;

3. Notarized copy of the academic transcripts: Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English;

4. If the applicant is a student, a study proof is to be submitted with the application. If the applicant is employed, a proof of employment is to be submitted;

5. Photocopy of passport;

6. Certificate of Non-criminal Records;

7. A research plan (not less than 800 words written in English or Chinese); (Click here to download the plan)

8.Two recommendation letters: applicants need to submit two original recommendation letters in English or Chinese from two professors or associate professors. (Click here to download the letter)

The applicants need to mail all above application materials to: International Admissions Office, School of International Education, Tianjin University. Application materials will not be returned regardless of the result of application.

V. Application Procedures

1. Decide your proposed research topic and find a supervisor in Tianjin University. You may contact the schools or departments in which you wish to undertake your research, or contact the School of International Education for help.

2. To contact your supervisor with your research proposal and request for supervision. It is recommended that you include a research plan, curriculum vitae, academic transcript, and two recommendation letters from two professors/associate professors in your home university.

3. Complete the application form and submit it to the International Admissions Office, Tianjin University.

VI. Admission

1.　　 The application will not be processed if it is inconsistent with the recruitment requirements or the materials are incomplete.

2.　　 We will review all the application material, and admission is based on merit. We will send the Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW202) to the final successful applicants.

VII. Completion

Students who have completed their research will be awarded a completion certificate and transcript, but without degree.

VIII. Fees (RMB)

1.　　 Applicants who plan to study for less than one semester need to provide proof of insurance when enter the university; applicants who plan to study for one semester or more need to buy the medical insurance offered by China Ping’ an Insurance Company when enter the university.

2.　　 Other fees such as traveling fee, learning materials fee should be paid by students themselves.

3.　　 Accommodation

Note: International student’s dormitory on campus must be booked beforehand. Self-funded students may find their own living accommodation off campus, but they must register to the local police station within 24 hours.

Tianjin University General Visiting Student Program

I. Program Introduction

An international student wishing to study the undergraduate/postgraduate courses at Tianjin University for one month/semester/year but not for a degree may be recruited as a General Visiting Student.

II. Eligibility

1. Applicants must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health;

2. Education and age requirements:

Sophomore or above, as well as applicants who have graduated with a Bachelor degree, and be over the age of 18 and under the age of 45.

III. Application Period and Registration Date
Autumn Semester:

Application: March-June; Registration: Early September
Spring Semester (next year):

Application: September- December; Registration: February (next year)
