Tianjin University currently offers 108 master's programs with a duration of 2-3 years. Most programs are taught in Chinese, while 31 programs are available in English. Upon successful completion of the prescribed curriculum, passing the assessments, and defending the graduation thesis, master's students will be awarded a master's degree. Additionally, all Chinese-taught master's students are required to reach Level 5 of the "Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages" standard before graduation. Master's students majoring in International Chinese Education and Intercultural Education are required to reach Level 6 of the "Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages standard before graduation. I. Qualifications
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport. For applicants who used to be Chinese citizens but later immigrated to other countries, the conditions set by the?Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the Peoples Republic of China should be met.
2. Applicants must have a bachelors degree and be under the age of 35. Applicants should be in good health and of good character, be well-behaved and be willing to abide by China's laws and regulations, as well as the university rules.
3. Language proficiency requirements
① For Chinese-instructed program applicants: Students are required to submit HSK-5 certificates with a minimum score of 180. Native Chinese speakers and applicants who complete their undergraduate study in Chinese are allowed to be exempted from providing HSK Certificates.
② For English-instructed program applicants: Students are required to submit English Proficiency Certificates. IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80 is mandatory. Native English speakers are exempted from providing relevant certificates. For applicants who completed their undergraduate study in English, a Certificate of Undergraduate Study in English should be submitted as an alternative language certificate instead of IELTS or TOEFL.
* The minimum language requirement for MBA Program (English taught) is IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 85.
II. How to Apply
Applicants should complete the Online Application on the International Student Service System (ISSS) (tju.at0086.cn/student) according to the application schedule. Applicants should fill in the application information online and upload the application documents listed below to the Online Application System.
Application Schedule:
October 15th, 2024 - May 31st, 2025.
Interviews will be arranged from February to June 2025 (The specific time will be notified).
Admission results will be announced in July 2025.
Due to the limited quota for scholarships, early application is strongly recommended.
Application Documents:
Please upload all the listed documents below to the application system.
1. Scan of original Highest Diploma. (Scan of Pre-graduation Certificate is required if the applicants have not gained degree certificate before the application deadline. Please resubmit the original highest diploma or original notarized diploma before registration).
2.Scan of notarized copy of the academic transcripts. Applicants who will not graduate before the application deadline must provide their current academic transcript. In this case, the completed academic transcripts must be submitted before registration.
3. Photocopy of passport within the validity period.
4. Proof of Chinese or English proficiency. (For specific requirements, please refer to Qualification of Applicants)
5. Study Experience Resume. (The start and end time of each education experience must be uninterrupted, and education level should start from senior high school).
6. Study or Research Plan. (800 words at least, in Chinese or English)
7. Two Recommendation Letters in Chinese or English from two professors or associate professors..
8. Acceptance Letter from TJU Supervisor. Remember to upload it to the application system if you get the Acceptance Letter.
9. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form. (The medical examinations must cover all the items listed and should be conducted after October, 2024).
10. Applicants who are now in China must submit scan of Photocopy of Visa and Transfer Certificate from present university.
11. Applicants must submit scan of Certificate of Non-Criminal Records (Fresh graduates are required to submit a certificate that shows the applicants good record of conduct and performance in their university).
12. Other attachments: Scholarship applicants should submit application forms with signature, applicants of School of Architecture are requested to submit E-works Collections and Video Presentations, self-sponsored and Tianjin Government Scholarship applicants should submit the certificate of deposit from banks or the income certificate of the financial guarantor. Applicants for Master degree can submit published papers or formal acceptance notification and relevant certificates for participating in the research project.

Application Remarks:
1. All uploaded documents must be in Chinese/English; otherwise notarial translations in Chinese/English are required. Once translated, the original documents and certified translations should be submitted together to the application system.
2. TJU has the right to request the applicants to provide the original or notarized hard copies of application documents for further qualification checks if the uploaded documents are not sufficient. Applicants who provide fake materials will be disqualified from admission.
III. Evaluation and Admission
1. TJU admits students based on evaluation of applicants academic record, language proficiency and interview performance. The admission committee of the school/college will review the application documents and select applicants for further interview. Interview date will be announced afterwards, please pay attention to your E-mail for the announcement. The final admission decision will be made after the interview.
2. Before the final admission result is released, applicants may check their admission status on ISSS. TJU will issue Admission Notice and visa documents to students admitted.
IV. Scholarships
Currently, Tianjin University provides the following scholarships to outstanding international master program students.
1. Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS)
Chinese Government Scholarship usually covers tuition, stipend, on-campus accommodation and medical insurance. Annual review is strictly required for all CGS holders. Applicants may choose either Type A or Type B channel to apply for CGS, but repeated application through two channels is not allowed.
① Chinese Government Scholarship (type A)
Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply to the local dispatching authorities or Chinese embassies/consulates in their home country. When filling in the application form for Chinese Government Scholarship, please fill in "Tianjin University" as your first choice in the column of "application institution". For contact information of Chinese embassies/consulates, please visit the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Peoples Republic of China. The application usually starts from November to February next year.
It is suggested that applicants apply to Chinese embassies /consulates after obtaining Pre-admission Notice or Acceptance Letter from TJU Supervisor. For application deadlines and other relevant information, please refer to the websites of Chinese embassies/consulates.
② Chinese Government Scholarship (type B)
Applicants need to submit the application through China Scholarship Council (http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua/). Our Agency Number is 10056 and please choose Type B. After finishing the application, applicants need to download the scholarship application form and submit it to TJU International Student Service System. The application deadline is January 31st, 2025.
2. Tianjin Government Scholarship (TGS)
Tianjin Government Scholarship includes the First Prize and the Second Prize scholarships. The First Prize TGS provides tuition fee subsidy, stipend and medical insurance, while the Second Prize only offers tuition fee subsidy. The scholarship has a duration of one academic year and could be applied year by year. Applicants need to download the?scholarship application?form and submit it to ISSS. The application deadline is May 31st, 2025.
V. Visa Application and Registration
Admitted students should bring their personal and ordinary passport, Certificate of Admission, Visa Application Form (JW202/ JW201), and original Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners (as well as other original documents of physical examination) to the Embassy or Consulate of the People's Republic of China, and apply for a student visa (X1 visa). Students are required to arrive at TJU (along with the required documents) and complete the registration during the dates indicated in the admission notice.
Normally, registration is held in late August or early September. All students should present the required original bachelor certificates, and submit the diploma copies certified by their university or certificate authorities upon registration at Tianjin University for admission qualification review. Students who fail the admission qualification review will be disqualified from admission.
VI. Costs (Unit: RMB Yuan)
1. Application Fee: 420 RMB (Pay at registration stage. Chinese Government Scholarship winners don't need to pay.)
