FOUNDATION PROGRAM

Tianjin University (TJU) is one of the 17 pilot universities to provide foundation program for international undergraduates awarded with Chinese Government Scholarships under the Ministry of Education of China. Since 2005, nearly 2000 international students have studied at and graduated from TJU with solid Chinese language skills, strong adaptability in degree program learning and high-level intercultural communication competence. The foundation program at TJU is designed for students who plan to pursue science and engineering for further study, as the aim of foundation program is to arm students with a systematic study of general Chinese, technical Chinese, mathematics, physics and chemistry and help students proceed to degree programs of various disciplines at TJU or other renowned higher education institutions. At the same time, relying on the advantageous disciplines of Tianjin University, we endeavour to create a foundation program characterised by economics, management and commerce, laying a solid foundation for cultivating professional economic and management oriented talents, and assisting learners in their future progress in the disciplines of economics, management and commerce.

At present, nearly 200 international students from more than 30 countries supported by Chinese Government Scholarship or at their own expenses are studying foundation program at Tianjin University. For academic year 2024, TJU will continue to provide foundation program study for international students, and the specifics are as follows: 

I. Course Setting

II. Features and Strengths 

1. Small class teaching, with teachers providing more support and attention.

2. The course is rich in content, helping to expand vision and future planning.

3. Those who meet the assessment requirements will lead to undergraduate degree and priority for scholarships.

III. Qualification of Applicants 

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport. For applicants who used to be Chinese citizens but later immigrated to other countries, the conditions set by the Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China should be met. Applicants should be in good health and of good character, be well-behaved and be willing to abide by China's laws and regulations, as well as the university rules.

2. Applicant must have a high school diploma and be between the age of 18 and 24. Applicants who are still under the age of 18 as of September 1st, 2024 must submit the original guardian certificate issued by the Tianjin District Notary Office, and the Guardian must be a permanent resident of Tianjin. 

IV. Application Period and Registration Date

Note: Due to the limited quota of TJU, early application is strongly recommended.  

V. How to apply 

Applicants should complete the Online Application on the International Student Service System (ISSS)（tju.at0086.cn/student）according to the application schedule. Applicants should fill in the application information online and upload the application.

VI. Application Documents

1. Photocopy of passport within the validity period.

2. Scan of original high school diploma or original notarized diploma. (Scan of Pre-graduation Certificate is required if the applicants have not gained degree certificate before the application deadline. Please resubmit the original high school diploma or original notarized diploma before registration).

3. Scan of notarized copy of the high school academic transcripts. 

4. Study Experience Resume (The start and end time of each education experience must be uninterrupted, and education level should start from senior high school). Click here to download template.

5. Applicants for one academic year must submit the photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (The medical examinations must cover all the items listed and should be conducted after October, 2023). 

6. Applicants for one academic year must submit the scan of Certificate of Non-Criminal Records. (Fresh graduates are required to submit a certificate that shows the applicant's good record of conduct and performance in their university)

7. HSK 4 Certificate and above, or a Certificate of Learning Chinese for over one year for spring semester applicants.

8. Applicants who are now in China must submit scan of Photocopy of Visa and Transfer Certificate from present university. 

Application Remarks:

1. All uploaded documents must be in Chinese/English; otherwise notarial translations in Chinese/English are required. Once translated, the original documents and certified translations should be submitted together to the application system.

2. TJU has the right to request the applicants to provide the original or notarized hard copies of application documents for further qualification checks if the uploaded documents are not sufficient. Applicants who provide fake materials will be disqualified from admission.

VII. Admission 

Applicants can check admission status via International Student Service System (ISSS) after submitting the online application. TJU will issue Admission Notice and visa documents to those admitted. 

VIII. Costs (Unit: RMB Yuan)  

1. Application Fee and Tuition Fee (Pay after admission)

2. Accidental Injury and Hospitalization Insurance: 400 RMB/semester/person; 

3. Other fees such as traveling fee, learning materials fee should be paid by students themselves; 

4. Accommodation: 

(1) Cost of On-campus International Student Dorm 

(2) Students who choose to live off campus should register at the local police station within 24 hours of arrival at TJU. 

Note: All the above fees are non-refundable once paid.
