Tianjin University Chinese Language Program for International Students

I. Program Introduction

Chinese Language Studies Program is open to international students who love Chinese Language and Chinese culture. Students learn Chinese at the School of International Education as a Second Language as full-time general visiting students.
Instruction is divided into elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels. Students are arranged according to the results of Chinese placement test at the beginning of the semester. Class size is approximately fifteen students per class. Normally class hours are from Monday to Friday, 4 academic hours per day, 20 academic hours per week.
Upon completion of the program students will receive a certificate and an official transcript. The program is normally one semester long, but students could apply for extension of their study period to at most four semesters in accumulation.

II. Course Setting

1. Chinese language Courses: Oral, Listening, Reading and Comprehensive Chinese

2. Chinese Cultural Courses (Optional): Taichi, Martial Arts, Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, Paper-cut, Chinese Cuisine, Chinese Song

3. Other courses (Optional): HSK Level 4-6, Business Chinese

4. Extra-curricular Activities: Tianjin city tour. Extra fees need to be paid for other travelling.

III. Duration:

One semester or more, 20 hours/week

IV. Eligibility

1. Applicants must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health;

2. Education and age requirements:

Applicants must be high school graduates, and be over the age of 18 and under the age of 50.

V. Application Period and Registration Date
Autumn Semester:

Application: March-June; Registration: Early September
Spring Semester (next year):

Application: September- December; Registration: February (next year)

VI. Application materials

1. Application Form for Foreign Students Wishing to Study in Tianjin University, China; (click here to download the form)

2. Certificate of the highest diploma (original and notarized copies). The certificates which are not in English or Chinese version should be translated into English or Chinese version and also be notarized;

3. Notarized copy of academic transcript. The transcripts which are not in English or Chinese version should be translated into English or Chinese version and also be notarized;

4. Photocopy of passport (valid ordinary passports);

5. Certificate of Non-Criminal Record.

VII. Admission

1. The application will not be processed if it is inconsistent with the recruitment requirements or the materials are incomplete.

2. We will review all the application material, and admission is based on merit. We will send the Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW202) to the final successful applicants.

VIII. Fees (RMB)

1. Application Fee: 420RMB

2. Tuition: 6900 RMB /semester (Tuition cannot be refunded after paid)

3. Medical Insurance: 300RMB / person /semester

4. Other fees such as traveling fee, learning materials fee should be paid by students themselves.

5. Accommodation

Note: International student’s dormitory on campus must be booked beforehand. Self-funded students may find their own living accommodation off campus, but they must register to the local police station within 24 hours.
