I. Introduction

Tianjin University has high teaching quality, first-class faculty and pleasant environment. Chinese language is a characteristic bachelor program for foreign students. It aims to cultivate students with good capacity in Chinese listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation skills, familiar with China and Chinese culture, and master high-level communication skills. Chinese language (Business Chinese direction) aims to further cultivate the ability of students’ oral and written expression of Chinese language, to widen the professional knowledge of economic management, liberal humanities and social sciences, to enhance the ability of cross-cultural communication and economic management, and to improve the ability to better engage in business activities related to future China on the basis of completing undergraduate courses of Chinese language.

III. Qualification of Applicants

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport. Applicants of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan who have immigrated to other countries should meet the conditions set by the Document No.83 (2009) of Ministry of Education of the PRC.

2. A bachelor’s degree program applicant should hold a high school diploma and be over the age of 18 and under 30. Applicants who are still under the age of 18 as of September 1, 2020 must submit the original guardian certificate issued by the Tianjin District Notary Office, and the guardian must be a permanent resident of Tianjin.

3. Applicants should have good conduct, good physical and mental health, and be willing to abide by the laws and regulations of China and Tianjin University.

4. Language Proficiency Requirements:

A minimum requirement of HSK 3 (Score 180 or above) is needed.

For applicants who have obtained HSK 4 (Score 220 or above), some credits can be exempted after being recognized by our university.

V. How to Apply

 Applicants should complete an online application on our to the application schedule. Applicants should fill in the application information online, upload the application documents listed below to the Online Application System.


Application Schedule

1st Round: Oct 25,2019-Dec 25,2019

Admission results will be announced in early January, 2020.

2nd Round: Jan 15,2020-Mar 15,2020

Admission results will be announced in early April, 2020.

3rd Round: Apr 15,2020-Jun 15,2020

Admission results will be announced in early July, 2020.

Due to the limited quota of each school, early application is strongly advised.


Application Documents

Please upload all the listed documents below to the application system:

1. Scan of highest diploma or original notarized diploma. (Scan of pre-graduation certificate is required if the applicants have not gained certificate. Please resubmit the notarized copy of highest diploma before registration).

2. Scan of notarized copy of the academic transcripts or scan of international standardization test results (such as SAT/ACT/A-Level/AP/IB etc.).

3. Photocopy of passport within the validity period.

4. Applicants who are not in China at present must submit scan of Certificate of Non-Criminal Records.

5. Applicants who are now in China must submit scan of Photocopy of Visa and Transfer Certificate from present school.

6. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Please select the appropriate time to have medical examination as the medical results have a 6-month validity).

7. Applicants used to be Chinese citizens but later immigrated to other countries who have meet the conditions set by the Document No.83 (2009) of Ministry of Education of the PRC should submit citizenship certificate and 4-year visa record. 

Application Remarks

Applicants are required to submit scanned images of all required documents at the time of application. All uploaded documents should be in Chinese or in English; otherwise notarial translations in Chinese or English are required. Once translated, the original documents and certified translations are to be submitted together to the application system.

Please scan the original or notarized application documents in color using a scanner. Images captured by mobile phone or camera are not acceptable. Copies are also not acceptable.

TJU has the right to request the applicants to provide the original or notarized hard copies of application documents for further qualification checks if the uploaded documents are not sufficient. Applicants shall guarantee all the information and application documents submitted in this application are authentic and accurate, otherwise they will be disqualified from admission.

VIEvaluation and Admission

TJU enrolls students based on evaluation of applicants’ academic scores, language proficiency and interview performance (Interview date will be announced afterwards).


Except for those nominated for Chinese Government Scholarship, the first academic year tuition fee for other nominated students should be transferred in advance to Tianjin University bank account and the scanned counterfoil sent to TJU online Application TJU will issue admission notice and visa documents to those admitted in July after receiving the scanned counterfoil. Students who give up studying in our university due to personal reasons will not be refunded their tuition fees.
Note: When wiring tuition fee to the university bank account, you must fill in application number, applicant’s name and the program you are going to take.

All freshmen need to attend language proficiency test after registration and we will assign classes according to the test results.



Tianjin University offers a variety of scholarships to incoming full-time international undergraduate students: Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) and Tianjin University International Students Scholarship, etc.

Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply to the dispatching authorities for overseas study or Chinese embassies/consulates in their home country.

When filling in the application form for Chinese Government Scholarship, please fill in "Tianjin University" as your first choice in the column of "application institution". It is suggested that applicants apply to Chinese embassies/consulates after obtaining pre-admission certificate.

. Visa Application and Registration

Admitted students should bring their personal and ordinary passport, Certificate of Admission, Visa Application Form (JW202), and original Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners (as well as other original documents of physical examination) to the Embassy or Consulate of the People's Republic of China, and apply for a student visa (X1 visa). Students are required to arrive at TJU (along with the required documents) and complete their university registration during the dates indicated in the admission package.

Normally, registration is held in late August or early September. All students should present the required original high school certificates, and submit the diploma copies certified by high school conferring institutions or certification authorities upon registration at Tianjin University for enrollment qualification review. Students who fail the enrollment qualification review will be disqualified from enrollment.
